Opening Day

. . . .

He got me!

I was driving home from an outreach in a nearby town on Halloween night when ..."BANG".  I saw nothing but my windshield splinter so I pulled over.  I quickly realized my fate (actually the buck's fate).  Now I officially have a "when I hit a deer story" to compare with all my Montana friends.  Thankfully I can still drive it.  And no, I didn't get to keep the buck - it went to the food bank.  I guess I will being trying out new skills at bodywork since our insurance won't be covering it.

Last month I received a call from Hopeforce deploying me to Hurricane Ike "disaster relief" in Galveston, Texas.  I cleared my schedule and agreed to work as a warehouse supervisor.  By the time I got my flight information (2 hours later)I had already been promoted to Chief of Logistics.  I spent two very full weeks serving with some great people.  Nearly every morning meeting we were moved to tears from someone who was sharing what had happened the day before.

With all the news focused on politics and the economy not much has been shared about what happened in Texas, but there was a lot of devastation. I think there was also less media attention because the relief work has gone well.

Logistics was a full on job - At the airport we had 50 trailers being used to hold the dry and frozen food.
These "cambros" were used to hold the food which were taken out on the canteens
